It is so sad to see the devastation of such a wonderful, educational, and historical institution.
In today's "microwave society", it was sheer child-like joy, for us to experience a ride/tour on the M&H, this past summer! The ride/tour was WELL worth the cost of the ticket. The "priceless" bonus, was that of meeting the railroad's owners,as well as George/Peggy Eby and other fantastic people!! My husband has always loved trains, but had never really been on a "real" one. WOW!!!!! We were both like kids in a candy store, as we rode that marvelous train, singing songs, and learning all about the history of that area. With both of us being educators, we see daily, how parents "forget" the "simple", yet effective ways to educate their children.Trains are synonymous with AMERICA's history. It has been said: "You can't know where you are going, if you don't know where you have been!" One of the #1 problems in the USA....we REFUSE to LEARN from our "history!"
Repeat the good, erase/delete the bad. TRAINS have a "family-likeness" to them that one doesn't get when traveling by plane! Which-aside from the financial aspect, is why so many families are choosing to travel again by car........"closeness; having the opportunity to be able to connect".

THANK YOU, M &H RAILROAD, for an experience we will never forget.........I am praying you will still be around in a coupe of years; so we can visit PA again, and bring our first (due to be born in Feb.) grandchild for a ride on what WE call the "Education Express!"

I used to visit my grandparents in Luke, Maryland growing up in the 50s-70s. Their house was right on the main line across from "the mill." I have very fond memories of #151 switching the mill, the yard in West Virginia, and the various sidings between Luke and Keyser, WV. My best memory is the crew allowing me into the cab during their lunch break (I got to ring the bell, NO whistle!). Glad to see the old gal still some life in her. All the best!
