About M&H Railroad

The original Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad Company was formed in 1888 by local businessmen. Construction of the line between its namesake boroughs was completed in 1890. From then until 1976 it was part of the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad, later the Reading Company. Since 1976, the current Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad has been an independent company operating the 7-mile line providing freight service. Tourist passenger train service was begun in 1986. This marks 125 years of uninterrupted freight service to the area!

The M & H Railroad primarily uses a 1955 General Electric diesel locomotive for tourist train service. Canadian National steam engine #91 Mogul 2-6-0 is out of service at this time. A 1956 Alco S6 or 1969 Alco T6  diesel-electric locomotive may occasionally pull tourist trains, but these engines typically handle freight to/from our Norfolk Southern interchanges at Middletown (via Keystone Line) or Hummelstown (via Lebanon Valley Branch) for customers located along the line.
